A fun and challenging learning environment for ages 4 - 5
Our 4-5 year olds continue to learn through their experiences, however their day becomes more structured with daily literacy and maths sessions. As the year progresses they extend their reading, writing and mathematical skills.
Wellbeing, PE and Swimming all form part of their weekly timetable and are taught by specialist teachers.
Underpinning all our learning is careful assessment and monitoring of progress. This continues from Nursery into Reception and allows staff to extend and scaffold learning when required.
Early Literacy and Numeracy
After starting to learn these skills in our Preschool, Reception stage marks the beginning of more structured learning, with a focus on early literacy and numeracy skills. Through interactive lessons and play-based activities, we ignite a passion for reading, writing, and mathematical exploration.
Social Skills and Team Building
Reception is a crucial time for developing social skills. Our pupils engage in collaborative activities that promote teamwork, communication, and empathy, setting the stage for positive relationships with peers and teachers.
Creative Expression
The Reception years at Polam emphasise creative expression. From art projects to imaginative play, we encourage children to express themselves freely, fostering a love for the arts and nurturing their unique talents.
Outdoor Learning Adventures
In Reception, we embrace the great outdoors as an extension of our classroom. Through outdoor learning activities, children develop gross motor skills, connect with nature, and experience the joy of learning in a dynamic and engaging environment.
Curriculum
The statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides the guidance and requirements supporting the learning and development of children in our care.
